Pregnancy 12 to 20 weeks

12 to 20weeks

when I was 13 weeks pregnant, I had to buy new clothes as I started to develop a bump. I did not bother getting maternity clothes yet, as the are expensive to buy and no point at this stage. I went to Primark and Matalan to start with. I did prefer Matalan as there is more choice, and the sizes are better and you can get up to big sizes too. I found items from Primark to be small even though I got everything 2 sizes bigger. I had to make my next appointment to see my new midwife. As I had changed my doctors surgery. I made my appointment for 16 weeks.

I was still suffering from bad morning sickness I was sick most days and through the night. I always wonder who’s idea it was to call it morning sickness, I was always worse at night. Nothing really helped my morning sickness apart from ice polls. I had tried ginger nuts I tried toast and rich tea biscuits. I lost a 1stone (14lbs) in a week. The smell of food was horrible, which caused me to be sick as well. I had no energy all I wanted to do was sleep.

Once I was 13 weeks pregnant we started to tell everyone that we were having a baby. We had told a few people when we first found out that we were having a baby, but did not want to say to many people in case anything happened. As people say it is unlucky and after 12 weeks there much less chance of having a miscarriage.

I can not really remember much about 14 and 15 weeks just I had really bad morning sickness and I was always sleeping. I never been so tired in all my life or so I thought. For a while I kept looking at my pregnancy test as I still thought I was in a dream. Even with seeing my baby twice. I love looking at my scan pictures I looked at them every day. One of the scan pictures looked like Homer Simpson out The Simpson’s.

At 16 weeks I had an appointment with my midwife. The thing was to have my blood pressure checked or BP. Then I had to lie on the on the bed to have my bump measured. Which was 16 cm in height. They say 1 cm per week of pregnancy, and they allow 2 to 3 cm each side of this measurement. Then the midwife had a feel around to see where baby was lying. Once baby was found the midwife used a hand held doppler. At the end of the appointment the midwife took some blood. I did not feel very good when and after the blood was taken and had to lie down.

We are due to go on holiday when I was 21 weeks pregnant. So at 17 weeks I was busy with buying and packing my bags for the holiday. I was also growing at some rate. I had to buy several maternity items as I could no longer fit into any of my normal clothes. I was also become uncomfortable through the night. I used to lie on my back a lot, but with my baby getting bigger it put a lot of pressure on my back. It is recommended to lie on your left side as it is best for you and baby.

At the rate my bump was growing I was worried I would have to buy more clothes for my holiday and after. 18 weeks my morning sickness finally started to calm down. But the cravings I was having got worse. I wanted chocolate and crisps, ice cream first thing in a morning. I also started to feel weird things in my belly but wasn’t sure if it was baby or just wind. It was like little flutters. At least I wasn’t feeling as tired as I had been. I was starting to feel great. Though sleeping was becoming even hard as the nights went on.

As it came closer to the holiday I started to worry if something went wrong. Or how was I going to fit on a plan. I can not remember much that happened at 19 weeks.

At 20 weeks I had another scan. Which is a detailed scan to check for an abnormalities with baby and placenta. I was told our baby had lovely long legs and was growing well. Our baby looked great and the midwife dealing with us said everything, was in the right place and was doing what it was meant. The detail we saw was amazing. We saw our baby’s brain that was really cool. Saw the heart pumping away, all the way down our baby’s spine.

We got to the baby’s bottom and hoped to see what sex our baby was. We thought it was a girl and couldn’t see anything to say it was a boy. The hospital that we went to for the scan does not checked babies sex, as it is not there policy to. There is clinics that will tell you if you pay. Anyway back to the scan where we finally came to baby’s feet which we could see toes and it looked like our baby was waving with her feet.
