When I was 8 weeks pregnant, on a Saturday night I started to have bleeding and some cramps. I phoned NHS 24 for help. They put me through to my local hospital where I spoke to a midwife who asked me go in and get checked over. When I got there I had to wait for several hours before being seen by anyone. I really didn’t like waiting as long as I did. I was so scared, I was on my own and did not know what was happening to me.
The first person to see me was a midwife. Who was unsure about why I was bleeding and where it was coming from. So she got this lovely doctor to come see me. He told me they were worried, as the thought I was miscarrying or I was having an Ectopic pregnancy. I was examine again he was happy that it wasn’t Ectopic. I was kept in over, for monitoring and to have a scan. At first the doctor couldn’t see any baby. I thought I had lost it. She told me, I had a lilt in my womb and had to have internal scan. Where I saw my baby for the first time, it was amazing, I was in tears. I even saw my baby’s heart pumping.
The doctor had said the bleeding was old and most likely from previous operations that I had. I was allow to go home but to rest up for a week or so. I took it easy and couldn’t wait for my first midwife appointment I was just under 10 weeks at my appointment.
At the appointment we went through my partner and my medical history and long with our family medical history. I was then weighed and measured. I also had to get my blood pressure checked which all was fine. I was given my due date or estimated expecting date(EED) 15th of September 08 I was told I would have a ultrasound scan at 12 weeks but because I was late in getting my first check it might be a bit longer. I got my 12 week scan when I was 12 weeks and 3 days pregnant.
I had a great scan I think I fell in love with my baby then. I got 5 pictures of our baby as every time the scanner tried to measure our baby she kept moving. I will always remember that day. I didn’t want to leave I wanted to watch my baby all day. Both my partner and I was in tears, I could not believe how much our baby had grown in 4 weeks. I was told how long our baby measured. They said everything looks great. We both wanted to know the sex of our baby, but was to early to find out, and the hospital we attended would not tell us. We got our next appointment for the 1st of May 08 for a 20 week scan.
I also got my first bounty pack (pregnancy information pack) it’s one of five packs that you should be able to get. I can not remember what was in the pack, but I know you get a voucher to get your next pack (mum to be essentials pack). You can either get your pack at A.S.D.A or Boots. I recommend A.S.D.A as you get a £5.00 voucher for clothing.
